Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
- Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
- Boot from a USB pen drive
- Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)
- Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
- Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
- Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
- Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
- Modularly grow -- DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize.
To run on your USB Drive
1. Download dsl-4.4.9-embedded.zip and USB installer from the links provided below.
2. Open USB installer and select dsl 4.4.9 distribution from dropdown.
3. Browse to the location of your dsl-4.4.9-embedded.zip
4. Insert your pen drive and select the drive.
5. Press Create.
6. Now change your windows boot order by selecting Boot from USB in your System BIOS.
7. Done. Enjoy!
To run on your home OS (Inside Windows)
1. Download dsl-4.4.9-embedded.zip from link below.
2. Extract the files to a folder.
3. Run dsl-base from the folder.
4. Done. Enjoy!
P.S.--> Only problem i encountered is that files are not mounting to some storage device. So once you close it, all your data and files get deleted automatically. Though i am working on it to resolve it soon. But Still its a good option for those who have low configurations on their systems and just want to practice all commands all together in a go.
